Casa Guatemala, located in Rio Dulce, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in Guatemala. They provide education, healthcare, nutrition, and support services to underserved communities. Through their programs and initiatives, Casa Guatemala aims to empower individuals and create positive change in the region.
Petén
Petén, Guatemala, is a region known for its ancient Mayan ruins and lush jungle landscapes. It's home to the famous Tikal National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site showcasing impressive Mayan pyramids and wildlife diversity. Petén offers a unique blend of archaeological wonders and natural beauty, attracting tourists and adventurers alike.
Day 1, Oct. 4th
Arrival in Guatemala and Welcome to Antigua
Upon arrival, in Guatemala City Airport, our greeter will meet you at the airport and escort the group to the helipad for a quick ride to the colonial city of Antigua. Once there, we’ll check in at The Camino Real and take some time to unwind and relax.
In the afternoon, feel free to explore the city and charming streets in Antigua, a city rich in history and Colonial architecture. In the evening, we’ll come together for a welcome dinner in this picturesque setting celebrating the start of our journey.
Day 2, Oct. 5th
Breakfast at the hotel and then join us for an immersive cultural experience in the vibrant Santiago Zamora community, just a short drive from our hotel. Discover the rich traditions of the local villagers as we engage in a hands-on exploration of their culture. You’ll have the opportunity to learn a traditional dance, gain insight in the intricate art of textile weaving and knitting, and try your hand at making authentic tortillas.
Gear up for an exhilarating afternoon as we embark on a 4x4 adventure through Guatemala’s stunning landscapes in Finca Pilar. After an exciting off-road journey, we’ll take a short hike to a breathtaking vantage point where we’ll savor wine and cheese while watching the sunset over the majestic volcanoes that define the region.
As the day draws to a close, we’ll return to the hotel for a well deserved dinner, reflecting on the incredible experience of our action-packed day.

Day 3, Oct. 6th
Travel to Rio Dulce and Casa Guatemala Introduction
Start the day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before we take a private bus ride to Guatemala City, from there, we’ll board a short charter flight to Rio Dulce. Upon arrival, we’ll check in to the Hotel Backpackers, followed by a welcome lunch with Heather Graham, the Executive Director of Casa Guatemala.
After Lunch, we’ll take a short boat ride across the river to Casa Guatemala. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a comprehensive tour of Casa Guatemala, gaining insights into its impactful work. We will then meet and greet the children and teachers of your specialty, which you will be focussing on over the next few days.
As the evening approaches, we’ll join the children for dinner followed by a heartwarming bonfire before returning to the hotel of our own evening meal.
Day 4, Oct. 7th
Begin your day with breakfast at Hotel Backpackers before embarking on a boat ride to the school. Spend a full, rewarding day with the children, engaging in their activities and sharing lunch together.
As the day winds down, we’ll venture off-site for a unique dining experience at a jungle restaurant surrounded by the natural beauty of the Guatemalan rainforest.

Day 5, Oct. 8th
Start your morning with breakfast at the hotel before setting off on a serene boat ride through stunning canyons, where you’ll have the chance to observe the local wildlife. After returning to the hotel for lunch, we will head back to school for a special afternoon celebration, hosting a fun-filled party for the children.
As evening falls, we’ll join the children for dinner, followed by bedtime stories to the younger ones and tucking them in and saying our farewells. We’ll conclude the day with a final dinner at Hotel Backpackers, reflecting on the meaningful connections made.
Canyon Exploration and Farewell Experience Celebration
Day 6, Oct. 9th
For those heading home, enjoy and early morning departure to Guatemala City for your international flights. For those continuing the adventure, we’ll take a short flight to Flores followed by a brief car ride and boat transfer to La Lancha, The Francis Ford Coppola Resort nestled in the rainforest above the shores of Lago Peten Itza.
Upon Arrival, check into La Lancha, a charming 10-room lodge. The morning is yours to enjoy at leisure- whether you choose to paddle board, float on tubes, canoe, relax by the pool, or take a refreshing swim in the lake. Enjoy lunch at the lodge.
In the late afternoon, there’s an optional short boat ride to the town of Flores, where you can explore local shops. We’ll end the day with a delightful dinner at the lodge, surrounded by the serene beauty of the rainforest.

Departure and Journey Home
Enjoy an early morning breakfast as we prepare to start our journey home. Reflect on the incredible memories made as we say goodbye to Guatemala and back to our respective destinations. Safe Travels!
Day 7, Oct. 9th
Exploration of Tikal and Farewell Dinner
Start your day with breakfast before departing for Tikal National Park, where you’ll embark on an exploration of the ancient Mayan temples and pyramids. As one of the most visually captivating and immersive Mayan sites, Tikal offers a profound journey into the history and culture of this remarkable civilization.
Lunch will be enjoyed either within the park or back at the lodge, depending on timing. The afternoon is yours to spend tine at leisure, with an optional opportunity to participate in the ancient Temazcal ritual, available at an additional cost. In the evening, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner, celebrating the unforgettable experiences we’ve shared throughout this journey.
